GET READY TO TAKE A SWING AT LYME - - - IN LANSDALE!
This is Lily Bennett.
Lily was an active 2-year-old who loved gardening and butterflies. In 2014, after playing in her yard, a tick was removed from her forehead.
A few days later, everything changed.
Days after the tick was removed, Lily developed body aches, Bell’s Palsy symptoms and a rash. Doctors were informed about the removed tick but did not attribute Lily’s worsening symptoms to the tick bite. Fifteen days later, 1 day after her third birthday, Lily died of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, a tick-borne disease (TBD).
Risk is high. Prevention is low.
Any child who spends time outdoors, lives near the woods, goes to camp, has a dog or cat, plays or watches sports on a grassy field … or simply plays outside at recess or at home is at significantly increased risk. These are things that most children do every day.
And kids should get to be kids.
Every day in Pennsylvania, 81 children become infected with Lyme and tick-borne diseases, and up to 30% develop long-term symptoms or worse. Pennsylvania has been the worst state for Lyme Disease for 11 out of the last 12 years.
We have an increasingly high number of engorged ticks being found on kids.
An increasingly high number of kids whose lives are being disrupted.
Kids like Lily, who lost her life to tick-borne disease.
We want this to change.
Will you help us?
We need to raise money and awareness so that what happened to Lily – and many others – never happens again.
SHARE YOUR LYME STORY!
➔ At each hole, we will profile personal “Faces of Lyme” stories to reinforce the magnitude of lives impacted or lost due to Lyme and TBDs.
➔ If you or someone you know is willing to share your Lyme story, you’ll have the opportunity to do so!
➔ More details coming soon!
